Cool. This will be another co-desgin project. Currently we have a foldable bowl. I think it's close to the one you described but without the magnetic bottom. lol.


Is it able for you to draw a sample sketch so I can see how it works. If possible, please also locate where the elastic strapping and pocket are.
I mocked up one out of paper. The base is 5" x 5". The height so that it can fold properly is 2.5" for the walls.

On one side will have 2" bungee strap sewn in with tight loops that can hold small tools and allen keys.

On the opposite have a pocket with a velcro closure to hold looser or smaller items.

Two sides will be flat and 2 sides will have folds in them so that it can be folded up flat.

With the dimensions I have listed of 5"x5"x2.5" it is able to be folded as shown below. Then all is needed is a top strap to keep it shut.

As mentioned before maybe have some of that sheet plastic for some support to keep the bowl stable on the sides.

I was also thinking we could make it more compact as I was sleeping.

So on the bottom plate that is 5"x5" have it have two magnetic sections so that it is divided and can fold in half.

Now with that having two sections on the bottom you can fold it in half.

So two changes. Division of the magnetic bottom so it can fold and the hook n loop closure strap gets repostioned so that it can close when it is folded like this.

The bottom would look like this.

In this way it will be more easier to be carried but I worry about whether it can be folded twice when it's fabric and with plasitc material inside.

No idea due to the thickness. I do know that the foldable sides would be made of 4 triangles.

Only reason for the plastic inserts is to give rigidity to the sides so that they stay up. My paper version stays up in shape but no idea how the cordura would stand up. It is only 2.5" in height. Also note that it is only two sides that would have to stay rigid and in position properly because that would force the other two sides to be where they need and conform to the box shape.

Something for you guys to experiment with :)

I think the plastic inserts are in these places.

yeah, confirmed the possibilty of prototype already. We met a same problem as the magnetic tool band. The magnetic material is not strong enough when sewn under the fabric. We can make a sample but it can't work as we expected. Give it a try? :unsure:

If the magnet isn't strong enough then don't worry about it. I know that a certain style of magnet might be unreasonable for cost to implement.
